FAQs
As answered by Gloria Day, RMS Coordinator (updated October 4th):
- Are the stipends provided by hospital residencies like taxable income, or are they treated more like scholarships? Sorry unable to answer this question, you will have to check with the tax people in each province you are applying to.
- How late into December do the interviews usually go until? Unable to answer. Each program will set their own interview processes and deadlines.
- Are customized cover letters required for each program that we are applying to? No, one application is used to apply to all programs.
- Do we need an official transcript from universities or only a scanned PDF version? Either is acceptable.
- What questions are asked on the referee form that is sent to referees? The reference form will be posted on the CSHP as a reference only.
- The essay question - is that 600 words per each of those questions, or total? It is a total for the question. We will update the wording in PRAMS. 600 words is about equivalent to 4000 characters.
- Are both post-secondary (university) and secondary (high-school) transcripts required? It is up to the applicant to include a transcript of a prior degree. No transcript is necessary for secondary education.
- For the leadership section, there are certain cases where a position may not necessarily have a supervisor. For example, being a part of the student council, which is student-led. Is it okay to exclude a supervisor in these cases? Seems OK. This seems like an exceptional circumstance where it would be difficult to name a supervisor.
- For the presentation section it also states to exclude major presentations that are required by the pharmacy program. Students who are completing an independent study as an elective are wondering if presentations related to their project can be included in this section, as it is not a requirement of the program, but only of that specific class. The intent behind this section is to capture presentations above and beyond those associated with an academic requirement. It doesn’t sound like the presentations described here would meet this criteria.
